Most people I know don?t want to learn how to cook properly because they hate spending time in the kitchen cooking a meal which gets eaten in about a tenth of the time it takes to prepare it. I have to admit that I think fancy meals are a waste of time too, you slave away for an hour or two in the kitchen for a meal which is eaten in no time, however you don?t need to cook fancy meals all the time.
Once you know how to cook then you can whip up quick meals that are both tasty and a lot healthier than most of the ready meals that you buy from the shops. All the you really need is some meat, a nice sauce, some carbohydrates and some vegetables and that makes a fantastic meal.
Here are some tips so you can stop spending so long in the kitchen all the time:
Don?t waste time on a sauce ? A good sauce can make or break a meal, if you get the sauce right then the rest can be only mediocre and it will still taste amazing, so make sure you get this right. Unfortunately then they are also the part of cooking that takes the longest and is the easiest to get wrong. That is why I always recommend you just buy the sauce from a shop, either the stuff in a jar or you can buy the packet sauce that you still have to add milk and butter to etc, but either way it is far easier than doing it yourself.
You don?t need to use fancy cuts of meat ? You might be tempted to go for obscure and expensive cuts of meat to try and make a nice meal seem even posher. The problem with them though is that often you can?t tell the difference in the taste anyway, and they are usually far harder to cook too. So forget about them and just get the best kind of regular meat you can, like an organic chicken breast, it?ll taste gorgeous.
Get some decent pots and pans ? If you have really old and battered pots and pans then it is going to be harder to cook a nice meal with them. The main difference between cheap cookware and the good quality stuff is not the build quality (which of course will be better on the more expensive items anyway) but the fact that cheap items have a metal bottom which doesn?t heat up evenly. So you will find that whatever you are trying to cook will bur in some places and be undercooked in other due to hot spots while you cook.
You aren?t going to have to pay through the nose though, for about $100 or so you can get a fantastic set of cast iron cookware from Lodge which will serve you well for years to come. If you want to pay more then the best stainless steel cookware set at the moment is probably the Cuisinart MultiClad Pro set which will cost you just over $200 at the time of writing for a 12 piece set from Amazon.com.
Those three tips should have you well on your way to making delicious meals even quicker and easier.
