Will half of the UK's tobacco smokers have switched to the electronic ...

?

On the eve of the celebration of World No Tobacco Day, 2012, a new survey has been released by Source Wire News, based on research from a major electronic cigarette manufacturer. Although the accuracy and methodology has been questioned by some critics within the medical profession, the results are never the less quite startling. There are an estimated 10 million tobacco smokers in the UK. Currently 250,000 people are believed to have quit tobacco and switched to the safer smokeless cigarette. If the growth in the number of these tobacco smokers who make the switch continues at its current rate, then according to the survey, the UK can expect the number of electronic cigarette users to rise to 5 million by 2017.

?

It?s impossible to determine just how accurate these findings and predictions may be, but what can?t be disputed is that there has been a substantial growth in the number of smokers who are looking for safer and cheaper alternatives to tobacco. Over the last year this interest has intensified to such an extent that major supermarkets are now stocking smokeless cigarettes even though they have not been officially medically licensed or endorsed. The medical profession and the government have by and large though expressed their tacit support for the product as it is known to do less harm than cigarettes. So, all in all, the survey?s estimated figures may yet prove to be too conservative. There may in fact be considerably more people switching to smokeless cigarettes by 2017 than predicted.?

?

What is slightly more surprising is that it wasn?t health or financial concerns that proved to be the top reasons for those who had already made the switch to electronic cigarettes. What eventually drove tobacco smokers to change their habits were the side effects of smoking tobacco; that is, smelly odours and bad breath. Health concerns and cost, in fact, only ranked third and fourth in the list of priorities. The combustion of tobacco does produce strong odours which quickly go stale, and linger and cling to smokers and their clothing. The ex-smokers who now used electronic cigarettes noted that this was no longer a problem, and that they certainly had no regrets about switching to smokeless cigarettes.?

Government to Discuss Incentive for Hybrid Car Production ...

The industry ministry will discuss a plan to provide incentive for hybrid car production this week, Industry Minister MS Hidayat said here Monday.

?This week, the industry ministry will discuss the incentive scheme for hybrid cars with the finance ministry. If the incentive scheme is approved by the finance ministry, next week we will hold a meeting with the automotive industry principals to talk about hybrid car import,? he said.

For the time being, the hybrid cars will be imported from the principals` countries, because it is impossible to produce hybrid cars in Indonesia in the very near future, he said.

Several automotive industry principals such as Toyota said they could not produce hybrid cars in 2013. They might produce hybrid cars in 2014.

?Toyota asked the ministry to produce hybrid cars in the next two till three years, but we don`t agree with the principal,? he said.

Minister Hidayat said hybrid car is fuel efficient and could become a solution to the current energy crisis in Indonesia.

?The hybrid car can help reduce the gas emission and save fuel consumption. It`s in accordance with the government`s energy efficiency program,? he said.

Earlier, Hidayat said the industry ministry is still looking for the right technological system that could reduce carbon emissions from cars to make cars more environmental friendly.

Moving in unison can encourage aggression

Military leaders have long known that marching in unison makes for a tight-knit platoon. Past research by psychologist Scott Wiltermuth of the University of Southern California Marshall School of Business suggests that this cooperation emerges when the group members? emotions are aligned. Now he finds such synchrony can also encourage aggression, according to a study published in January in the Journal of Experimental Social Psychology.

Wiltermuth and his colleagues assigned subjects to groups. The researchers gave each group a set of cups and taught them a choreographed cup-moving routine that they would perform later to music. To create an atmosphere of competition, the researchers tasked them with memorizing a list of cities?they would be tested later, and the highest-scoring groups could win $50. Then all participants put on headphones and performed the cup routine in time to the music they heard. In some groups, participants ended up moving the cups in sync with one another; in other groups, each subject heard music with varying beats and could not coordinate with other participants. After completing the cup activity, the researchers told each group they could select the music a different group would hear during its cup-moving routine. One of the options was a loud, aggravating blast of static. Teams that had moved in sync were more likely to choose the noxious noise than those that had been out of sync. A more tightly knit team, it seems, is a fiercer foe.

In a companion study, to be published in Social Influence, Wiltermuth found that members of an in-sync group were also more destructive. The groups were given live pill bugs and told to shoo them into boxes described as ?exter?minators? (in reality, the boxes held the bugs unharmed). When prompted by a leader, those that had moved in sync earlier drove 54 percent more insects into the extermination boxes than did out-of-sync control subjects.

Wiltermuth explains that these findings underscore the importance of questioning our actions and those of our leaders. ?We are doing things we wouldn?t otherwise do, because we feel an emotional connection to our team,? he says.

Consumerism and Affairs

You may not have thought that consumerism has any connection with affairs. When the consumer mindset enters the marriage, relationships are viewed as products to shop for and purchase. Consumerism has a great deal to do with affairs. When you and the rest of the public are used to being a consumer, there is a mindset created where you are always on the lookout for a better deal. The danger about looking for that better deal is that when it creeps into the marriage relationship, it can lead to affairs or the dissolution of the marriage.

I have seen the consumerism come in several ways. There is the ?Playboy? approach, where the consumer is treated to a new woman each month. When men buy into this mentality, they are often looking for the newer, more attractive model. The female version of this approach is looking for the man who is more ?romantic?. It is not by accident that the harlequin romances come out at the same pace or faster than the men?s magazines. The more of these items that you consume, the more you want and the more dis-satisfied you become with the marriage you are in.

Another variant is the Wal-Mart approach. This is where you are looking for a ?better deal?. The cheater wants either the cheaper, or better quality model. With consumerism, the cheater often want a ?new? thing since the fun has worn off the other one. It is easier to for them to find a replacement than to work on the relationship they have.

In previous generations a woman who went through a number of men was considered a slut. Now days, she is just ?looking for the right man?. The man was considered either a gigolo or a man-slut as he goes searching for ?Mrs. Right?. Or the Christian variant of ?I wanted someone who was a Christian this time?. If they are on their third or forth, they may add the term ?real? to the label ?Christian?. By playing such word games, they feel less guilt about their sleazy patterns and many churches give them an approving wink at what they are doing.

There are plenty of ways today?s consumer mindset has infected marriages and the excuses that are made for serial marriages. The tragedy is that in most cases, the multiple marriage are often the same marriage with the same problems over and over. They call it ?new?, yet in terms of what happens, it amounts to the summer re-runs of the same old relationship, with the same old problems.

In reducing the risk of affairs or keeping them from coming back, it is important to purge your marriage of this consumer mindset. Recognize that marriage is a special commitment and be willing to work through the issues, rather than trade in or trade up.

Jeffrey Murrah

SmartPlanet tells us graphic designer Michael McDaniel has developed a reusable, portable disaster relief shelter made of polypropylene, the same material used for soda bottles, that can sleep up to four people. The Exo Reaction Housing System has slots in the walls for attaching bunk beds that can convert into couch-like seating. The units are similar to upside-down coffee cups that stack 15-20 on a semi-truck for ease of transport, but light enough that four people can lift each shelter. The The keyed-door and interior dead bolt provide security that may be essential in a chaotic environment, and because of their composition the units can be recycled. MHProNews.com has learned that while McDaniel designed the shelters with catastrophic events in mind, inquiries have been made from festival promoters, campgrounds, and persons wanting to use them as sheds.

Veterans' new fight: reviving inner-city America

How some veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are helping turn around a drug-infested neighborhood of Baltimore ? and themselves.

By Mary Wiltenburg,?Correspondent, Photos by Joanne Ciccarello,?Staff photographer / May 27, 2012

Veterans Dave Landymore (l.) and Eric 'Smitty' Smith are pictured. This is the cover story in the May 28 edition of The Christian Science MonitorWeekly.

It's a hot Sunday morning in Oliver, a blighted Baltimore neighborhood, and Dave Landymore is filthy. Two decades of basement dust cling to his jeans as the former Marine platoon sergeant hauls boxes of old baby things down the sidewalk to a giant dumpster.

They come from a house on Holbrook Street, known here as "Hellbrook." Once a feared hub of the city's drug trade, it has been Carolyn Lawson's home as she raised three children and cared for seven grandchildren. Now, though she struggles to walk, she is desperate to stay in her house. But it needs urgent repairs that the city won't make under a weatherization program until her basement is emptied of decades' worth of storage.

Mr. Landymore and a dozen other volunteers working at Mrs. Lawson's this morning are part of a veteran-led effort called Operation Oliver. Since October 2011, the group has been cleaning up trash and helping residents across the largely poor, African-American neighborhood. Along blocks dotted with boarded-up homes, where drug dealers run the corners at night, veterans are applying lessons they learned in Iraq and Afghanistan in an effort to restore the community's sense of pride ? and their own sense of purpose.

"This group is my life," says Landymore, who joined the project in September and has built his post-Iraq world around it. "It's something that I'd been looking for."

As the United States ends long occupations in Afghanistan and Iraq, some 200,000 service members each year are making the transition back to civilian life. Coming home from war has never been easy, for soldiers or society, and today's veterans face particular challenges, from the unprecedented number who suffered brain injuries in combat to the unforgiving economy that is waiting for them. But they also have particular strengths: They are an altruistic generation that volunteered to serve, many of whose members worked overseas rebuilding broken communities. Now, they're bringing that spirit home, and many are searching for ways to express it in their civilian lives.

For some in Baltimore, Operation Oliver is now an outlet for this sense of mission. The project's work has yielded real successes ? as well as conflict in a community that is in some ways as foreign to them as those they patrolled overseas. But with time, both sides have learned and grown, and more veterans, including Landymore, have moved to the area and devoted themselves to the project. What they've forged here could become a model for other complex revitalization efforts across the country.

"Unfortunately, the tendency is to thank a veteran for their service, pat them on the butt, and say: 'Go on, now,' " says Landymore. "But we all joined for the same reason; and just because you have your discharge papers doesn't mean the reason goes away, the sense of duty.... So until it becomes a matter of policy to engage veterans in this way, we're just going to do it anyways."

* * *

Operation Oliver began last summer, when an acquaintance introduced two energetic young do-gooders: Earl Johnson, a former Army Ranger who had recently moved to Oliver, and Rich Blake, a former Marine Corps sergeant who was missing the purpose and camaraderie he'd found overseas.

Mr. Blake was discharged in 2003, after more than four years as a combat marine. Civilian life felt like a letdown, he says, and he searched for a way "to feel useful again."

Home improvement projects can be very difficult, especially if you don?t know what you are doing. If you aren?t sure of where to start as you begin planning your home improvement project, then you should probably see if these tips are good advice for you to follow in getting the projects started and getting them done right.

Try updating your bathrooms because, like the kitchen, this room is very important, too. It can easily be improved without a lot of money. Try simple things like a new toilet seat or a fancier sink. They can totally transform the look and feel of the bathroom. Also, try replacing your tile floors, walls, and re-grouting your shower and tub.

During your next home improvement project, make sure to allocate a space to put all the debris that is generated from your work. It can be expensive to remove all that rubbish, so having a plan ahead of time is essential to saving you money and ensuring that your project continues as scheduled.

To get a dramatic effect in a room without spending a small fortune, consider painting the room using a decorative paint technique. Paint and supplies are fairly inexpensive and there are a variety of paint techniques, such as ragging and fresco, which can transform a drab wall into a virtual work of art.

You should make a list of everything you need before heading out to a home improvement store. Making a list of all the items you need to purchase ensures that you will not need to make multiple trips to the store and also helps to keep you organized.

If you want to add some color to rooms you should consider adding very colorful artwork instead of painting walls in loud colors. Note the fact that many buyers may be put off by loud colors and it will definitely affect your house?s potential when it comes to resale.

Paint your doors with a fresh coat of white paint to cover up the wear of everyday use. After a while the doors get a grimy bland color, so applying a new coat can make your doors appear new, as well as, add brightness to the inside of your house.

Securely screw your bookcases and other tall furniture to your walls! Not only is this step an important safety precaution in fortifying your home for a potential earthquake, doing so might actually prevent a child or elderly person from knocking these tall items over on themselves and sustaining serious injuries.

Home improvement is a task that must be completed with quality materials. It is known that you will equally get out of your work, what you put in. Make sure that quality of your materials is good because using cheap materials will cost you much more in the long run than what you saved in the beginning.

When committing to a home improvement project, be sure to do a lot of research in regards to property values. There are actually many things that you can do to your home that are cheap and can greatly increase your property value. With that being true, the opposite is as well, so do your research so that you can prevent spending money and ultimately, end up lowering your property value.

Are you planning a big home improvement project that requires a lot of hard manual labor that you cannot do alone? One way to get the job done while also saving money is to use temporary laborers from a service. You can choose how many experienced people you need and what time they will arrive and leave each day.

Purchase a freestanding electric fireplace unit to supplement your heating sources in the winter months. Not only do they cost pennies per hour to run, but they also can be easily moved from room to room. You can even turn off the central heating system at night and cuddle up with an electric fireplace in the room where you are sleeping. The simulated flames will also create a relaxing ambiance in any room.

When is the last time you took an inventory of the door handles in your home? Brass door handles shine immensely, and they make for a great improvement in your home decor. Take a look at your door handles for each room, and switch them with brass door handles to really bring out a change.

You need to make sure that you are getting the best price for your building supplies when you are doing any repairs or home improvements. All building supply stores carry the same materials but they all charge different prices for the materials. In order to get the best price you need to compare all of the prices at the different stores.

So, home improvement has the potential to be a fun and exciting project! However, the process can be very difficult and stressful if you do not have the right advice and information. Use the tips found in this article to improve your home with ease!

Scientists observe 'tragic experiment' of tsunami debris

Jeff Larson has seen just about everything wash up on the shores of Santa Cruz: bottles, toys, shotgun shells, busted surfboards and fishing floats that looked like they had bobbed across the Pacific.

When surging water driven by the magnitude 9.0 earthquake in Japan tore apart his city's harbor, he was there to scoop up the splintered docks and broken boats that were heaved onto the sand.

Now, more than a year after the catastrophe in Japan, Larson and fellow beachcombers up and down the West Coast are awaiting the flotsam that was set on a eastward course by the destructive surge of water.

Fishing floats, soccer balls, fuel tanks and crewless fishing vessels set adrift by the tsunami and pushed thousands of miles across the ocean by currents and winds are already arriving on American shores.

But this is not just driftwood. These fragments of people's lives are floating reminders of a great tragedy: The March 11, 2011, earthquake that unleashed tsunami waves over 100 feet high killed more than 16,000 people, obliterated coastal communities and swept millions of tons of material out to sea.

So as scientists track the debris, the government prepares for its arrival and expeditions sail to the middle of the ocean to meet it, Larson will patrol his adopted beach with a five-gallon bucket and a grab stick, the tsunami on his mind.

"I'll be looking for any signs of foreign material," the volunteer with beach cleanup group Save Our Shores said, "and reporting it to anyone who cares."

::

From Alaska to Northern California, beachcombers are reporting a growing influx of aerosol cans, fishing floats and plastic fuel cans swept from Japan.

There was a soccer ball with Japanese writing discovered in March on a remote Alaskan island and traced to a 16-year-old boy in Japan. In early April, the U.S. Coast Guard had to use explosives to sink a so-called ghost ship ? a 164-foot Japanese fishing vessel drifting through the Gulf of Alaska.

A corroded Harley-Davidson motorcycle packed in a container washed up on a Canadian island. The owner, located through the bike's license plate number, had lost three family members in the tsunami, Japanese media reported. Although currents along the California coast may deflect much of the debris back toward Hawaii, environmental groups as far south as San Diego are monitoring their shores just in case.

In all, more than 200 bottles, cans, buoys and floats have been reported to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. None of the debris is considered radioactive since it was dragged to sea before the nuclear disaster.

But the agency has verified just a few traceable items as tsunami debris. Much of the rest, officials say, is items so commonplace they can't be distinguished from the flotsam that makes landfall every day.

"We have debris washing up on the shore all the time from Japan, China and other places and they probably have ours," says Nir Barnea, West Coast coordinator of NOAA's marine debris program.

Others say the U.S. government is downplaying the size and significance of the approaching debris.

"Unfortunately 99.999% of debris doesn't come with a label," retired Seattle oceanographer Curtis Ebbesmeyer said. "Lawyers want something with a street number or a boat name on it. Flotsam isn't like that, so basically you can't positively track anything back to Japan."

Ebbesmeyer, who compiles reports from West Coast beachcombers on his blog, has tallied at least 500 foam and plastic floats and fuel cans that have shown up from Japan since October. He said that's roughly 167 times the normal rate.

"They all started arriving at once from Kodiak, Alaska, to Northern California, and that's very indicative of a disaster," he said.

Ebbesmeyer expects the amount of debris to increase dramatically this fall with the arrival of floating refrigerators, car wheels, bath toys and shoes ? items with a remarkable ability to float long distances.

With that possibility in mind, the state of Washington has distributed fliers with instructions on how to handle everything from canisters of insecticide to personal possessions.

More tuners and space aren't the only things that have changed since we gave the original TiVo Premiere a once-over just two years ago. No, there have been a few notable releases as well as the release of the TiVo Slide Remote and a number of TiVo companion apps for phones and tablets. How all that comes together is exactly what you'll find out should you choose to click on through to the other side.

Karl Marx: 10 great quotes on his birthday

May 5 marks the birthday of Karl Marx. Best known as the author of "Capital" and, with Freidrich Engels, the "Communist Manifesto," Marx provided the intellectual foundation for an array of regimes that at one time governed nearly half of Earth's population.

These regimes were, for many, a long nightmare of state terror, genocides, deportations, extrajudicial executions, forced labor, and artificial scarcity, crimes that left tens of millions of people dead and deprived many more of basic dignity.?

But while Marx's solutions are widely and rightfully condemned, his analysis still resonates among workers and intellectuals alike around the world. As much of the globe struggles to extricate itself from an economic slowdown that many believe was created by the excesses of what Marx called "the bourgeoisie," several Marxist concepts ? the anarchic nature of capitalism, the parasitism of the financial class, and the reserve army of the unemployed, to name a few ? appear to take on new relevance.?

Here are 10 quotations from Marx. Let us know which ones you like best, and add your favorites that didn't make it into the list in the comments below.

- Eoin O'Carroll,?Staff

1. On 'the 99 percent'

"You are horrified at our intending to do away with private property. But in your existing society, private property is already done away with for nine-tenths of the population; its existence for the few is solely due to its non-existence in the hands of those nine-tenths."?(From "The Communist Manifesto," 1848)

Should Mitt Romney worry about Ron Paul?

Mitt Romney is way ahead of Ron Paul in the delegate count. But Paul's enthusiastic forces have been effective in controlling state party apparatus, and this could impact the GOP convention.

Ron Paul has the proverbial snowball?s chance in Hades of becoming the Republican presidential nominee this year. Compared to presumptive front-runner Mitt Romney (switching clich?s) the image of gnat vs. elephant comes to mind.

Texas congressman Paul has yet to win a primary election or caucus. Romney has accumulated 10 times as many delegates as Paul (847-80). And yet long after the withdrawal of Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich (both of whom had won more than twice as many delegates as Paul before quitting), the dedicated libertarian keeps on keepin? on.

Should Romney be worried about Paul, nipping at his heels as the former Massachusetts governor pivots from the primary season to take on incumbent Barack Obama?

RECOMMENDED:?The roar of Ron Paul: Five of his unorthodox views on the economy

As he?s said many times, Paul is promoting a movement as much as a candidacy. In a nutshell, that means anti-big government and anti-war, eliminating five federal departments (Commerce, Education, Energy, Interior, and Housing and Urban Development), refusing to engage in foreign wars, cutting way back on foreign aid to Israel and other countries.

To keep his message out there he needs to stay a player, and 2012 probably is Paul?s last chance to do that on a national scale.

His chosen venue? Holding the Republican Party to its often-arcane delegate selection rules, especially in state party conventions.

In Maine and Nevada this weekend, Paul?s strategy gets another test. There, state conventions are scheduled to affirm the naming of delegates. In both states, GOP party officials clearly are worried that Paul supporters ? always an energetic force to be reckoned with ? could use state rules to gain delegates in a way that?s sure to rankle the Republican National Committee (RNC).

?The national Republican organization is?increasingly anxious?over the ability of the Paul campaign to take over state-level organizations, especially in states like Iowa and Nevada that have outsized importance on the nominating process,? the Hill newspaper reports. ?National Republicans worry that if grassroots party loyalists aren't supporting the presumptive nominee, the party could struggle against President Obama's fundraising and organizational efforts.?

Paul and Romney reportedly have a good personal relationship, But that hasn?t hampered Paul?s effort to rail against conventional GOP positions ? or his enthusiasm for the fight.

Twitter protects Occupy protester's privacy

23 hrs.

Twitter filed a motion Tuesday?requesting that New York state court to?overturn an order requiring that the social network provide user information to prosecutors. The user was an Occupy Wall Street protester who was?arrested last Oct. 1 in New York City.

Twitter's legal filing accuses?prosecutors?of asking the?company to violate the Fourth Amendment, the Uniform Act and its own Terms of Service.?It's a move the?American Civil Liberties Union heralds as a strike against the "increasingly aggressive attempts" by federal and state law enforcement officials "to obtain information about what people are doing on the Internet."?

In late April, a judge ruled against defendant Malcolm Harris, whose attorney attempted to quash a subpoena requesting his Twitter activity. Harris, along with hundreds of others, was arrested and?charged with disorderly conduct during a protest march on the Brooklyn Bridge.?

Harris, who is protesting the charge along with many others, contends that police officers directed the crowd to march on the roadway, then arrested the marchers for obstructing traffic. Manhattan prosecutors contend that the Twitter records will show that Harris knew about the police order not to walk on the roadways, but did so anyway.

"Defense attorneys have said subpoenas have been issued for at least four protesters? Twitter accounts," the Wall Street Journal noted in April, after the court ruled in favor of the Twitter subpoena. Prosecutors requested the records because protesters "use Twitter to coordinate activities and warn others of law-enforcement efforts. In doing so, prosecutors believe some have revealed intent to break the law."

When reached by msnbc.com,?Twitter provided a statement from legal counsel?Ben Lee:

As we said in our brief, "Twitter's Terms of Service make absolutely clear that its users own their content." Our filing with the court reaffirms our steadfast commitment to defending those rights for our users.

The?Twitter brief mentioned in fact calls out?three reasons why the?subpoena?"imposes an undue burden" by asking the company to violate its own Terms of Service, as well as several federal laws.

"First, the Order surprisingly holds that? Mr. Harris has no right to challenge the District?Attorney?s subpoena for his own?communications?and account information on Twitter. The motion notes that this finding is ?is contradictory to Twitter's Terms of Service, which?"unequivocally state that its users 'retain [their] rights to any Content[they] submit, post or display on or through' Twitter, and which "expressly permits users to challenge demands for their?account records."

Further, Twitter notes that the court requested user information without a warrant -- a violation of the Fourth Amendment, a requirement that "applies even when the government seeks information about allegedly public activities."

Then there's the whole thing about a New York court requesting information from a company located in California, the motion states. Thanks to the?Uniform?Act to Secure the Attendance of Witnesses from Without a State (Uniform Act, for short), California-based Twitter isn't required to hand over documentation to a New York court without a?subpoena?issued in its home state. "Because neither the Subpoena nor the Order comply?with the Uniform Act, Twitter cannot be required to produce any documents in response to?either," the motion ?points out.?

Twitter's choice to "stand up for one of its users" is a "big deal" ACLU attorney Aden Fine writes in a blog post announcing the motion:

While the individual Internet users can try to defend their rights in the rare circumstances in which they find out about the requests before their information is turned over, that may not be enough.?Indeed, even though Twitter provided notice to the Twitter user in this particular case, and even though he was able to get an attorney to file a motion seeking to quash the subpoena, the court found that the Twitter user did not have legal ?standing? to challenge the D.A.?s subpoena.

If Internet users cannot protect their own constitutional rights, the only hope is that Internet companies do so.

Twitter's motion comes in the wake of what civil libertarians are calling the U.S. government's move towards a "Surveillance State" in the United States.?

Earlier this week, CNET's Declan McCullagh reported that the FBI is courting social networks, VoIP and Web email providers to build backdoors in their services that allow for government surveillance.?

Last month, the House passed the Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act (CISPA), a bipartisan bill that?allows the feds and private?corporations (such as Facebook, AT&T, etc.) to share Internet without a warrant or other judicial oversight. As CISPA awaits a vote by the Senate, Twitter's legal expression of noncompliance is being viewed as at least a small win for our increasingly fading Internet privacy. ?

Helen A.S. Popkin goes blah blah blah about online privacy, afterwards asks we to join her on?Twitter?and/or?Facebook. Also,?Google+.?Because that?s how she rolls.

Sony unveils Crystal White PlayStation Vita, limited digital diva edition

Image

Remember that line-up of colorful consoles we eyed back at TGS? One of eight of those mock-ups is about to become a reality, at least in Japan. On June 28th, color conscious gamers will be able to pick up a WiFi or 3G Crystal White PlayStation Vita for ¥24,980 and ¥29,980, respectively (that's about $312 and $375 if you're counting in greenbacks). If the absence of color is a bit too bland for you, a limited edition Hatsune Miku handheld will hit shelves two months later, commanding a ¥10,000 ($125) premium for the privilege of plastering Sega's digital diva on your Vita's rear touch panel. On the plus side, Vocoloid's poster girl packs a 4GB memory card and a copy of Next Hatsune Miku: Project Diva to offset the limited edition's larger sticker price. No word yet when or if these Vita variants will hit the western world, but we'll let you now if we hear anything. Until then? Try to satiate yourself with the video after the break.

Justin Bieber's 'Boyfriend' Video: Frame By Frame

Director X sits down with MTV News and breaks down the sexy new clip, including the deets on 'Chunky Bieber.'

Justin Bieber drives fast cars, nuzzles with one very lovely young woman and gets his dance on in his record-setting "Boyfriend" video. Fairly simple in its concept, the video is a snapshot of what it would be like to party with the teen star and his hip friends on a rooftop in Los Angeles.

MTV News recently sat down with Director X, and he broke down what it was like to hit the set with the 18-year-old as he readies the next phase of his career, the more mature Believe era. The video is the lead visual off Bieber's June 19 album, and X took us through the clip, frame by frame.

"We start this off with the car stunts," he said of the opening shot. "We wrecked that car by the way; both of those Mustangs were pretty shot after this video, completely shot after this video."

From there, fans are invited to Bieber's car-themed rooftop bash, one that recalls the type of shindig another teen idol from back in the day may have thrown.

"So we got this rooftop here in L.A., starting our day with Justin and he's pulling up. We got all the cool kids hanging out," X said. "Justin's new look, he's kind of got a James Dean thing going on here. That's really Justin driving that Mustang ... and he did all the stunts by himself, completely. That's all him," X joked. "Actually, that's us holding the car. We put the car on these wheels and we pushed it around in circles while Justin pretended to drive."

Justin's "smooth" driving moves are matched only by the real ones he uses on his female co-star, Rachel Barnes. "We got Justin with the girl, pulling [her] around [with the] kids dancing, 'cause you know how kids do. That's what goes on [at these get-togethers]: Someone brings out their guitar and the party happens," he explained.

"The idea really was to show a lifestyle piece — Justin hanging out — to show that he's older ... just to see this new vibe," the director added. "We get to see that he's growing into his manhood. [We] just [wanted] to get in an environment where we can show that naturally, just have fun and get the vibe of who he is."

While Bieber and his lady love in the video captured fans' attention, a co-star who was dubbed "Chunky Bieber" on-set has also gotten some buzz. X explained, "[Chunky Bieber] came with one of the cars and somehow [Bieber's manager], Scooter [Braun], I don't know how in the world they got into conversation where Chunky Bieber started dancing somehow." Apparently it all went down when the director wasn't looking. "They taped 'Chunky Bieber' to his shirt and Chunky Bieber got in the video."

As the video closes out, Justin's dancing skills are on full display. "Got some footage of Justin dancing, [and] those are really his feet," Director X said. "He can do that, and that's it: Justin Bieber, bad boy."

What do you think of Justin's "Boyfriend" video? Tell us in the comments!
