Home Improvement | Do it Yourself DIY Plumbers Furnace Repairs ...

If you plan to do a fair amount of plumbing repairs yourself, then your tools become as if they are your right and left hands. Tools are what make the work man or woman into a person who can get the job done professionally and with ease.

On top of that most plumbing tools of course can be used for other do-it-yourself tasks and projects around the house, condo, cottage or apartment. It seems that no matter how much or how little you will plan to use a particular tool or set of tools the basic rule of life applies - get the best tool of the type that you can afford. Some even say to over spend past your apparent limit. It will pay off in spades. You seldom hear of anyone complaining that either they should not of bought a particular tool or overspent. On the contrary it is usually ? I should of spent a bit more and got the more high quality, more expensive tool. Often a good tool will last you a life time , or be solidly guaranteed as such whereas cheap tools are usually poor made and forged and are basically throw away low quality items.

Although the tools that you decide to purchase depend on how deeply you are involved in home plumbing as well as heating system / furnace repairs , in general and in plumbing projects in particular there are some certain specific tools that no self respecting do-it-yourselfer wannabe tradesman plumber should definitely have in stock in his , hers or their toolbox.

For working with older heavy duty galvanized steel or cast iron pipes, you will need pipe wrenches. These wrenches are generally used in pairs; one hold like a vice while the other turns a fitting or a pipe. A chain wrench is used for larger galvanized steel or cast-iron pipes and a strap-wrench- which works on the same principle as the chain wrench ? can be used on polished or plastic popes without damaging them.

Copper pipe and copper tubing require some special tools. Since you should avoid using a hacksaw on copper pipe, be sure to have a tubing cutter in your toolbox. A small-size cutter. Moreover makes it much easier to work in cramped quarters, and you will be amazed at how many plumbing chores are performed in fairly cramped surroundings. Lastly you will need a good propane torch for sweat soldering and a flaring tool for making flare connections at pipe joints.

Lastly very few tools ? none of them really special are required when working on or with plastic pipe. Yet don?t think for a moment that even though most of the piping you have installed as a handyman in your home , neighbors or relatives are generally plastic pipes ,and that plastic pipes are easy to work with ,inexpensive as well as all you have installed , that you will never encounter in your handyman travels only plastic pipes. In any older home or for other uses no doubt you will come across and be forced to work with older ( or even newer) pipes and pipe systems that use either copper or galvanized steel or even iron pipes and conduits. Be prepared fully for these events with proper tools. Proper tools make the tradespeople or the best most competent to get the job done DIY do it yourself-er.

Mediating Elder Law Issues | Risa A. Kleiner, Esq.

March 30, 2012

I attended a fascinating seminar yesterday presented by NJAPM on Mediating Elder Law issues.? Much like a divorce where family relationships add a layer of complexity to the legal issues, elder law issues may involve multiple generations and many family members.? Usually, the last thing the ?elder? wants is for his or her family to fight over how to provide care for them.? Yet, the decisionmaking may be complicated by geography, economics, family history?and emotions.

As a family mediator, it was clear to me that using mediation techniques to resolve elder care issues is far more beneficial to the entire family then starting a court case.? The last thing a parent or grandparent wants?is to have their family fight over their care.? Not to mention the fact that court proceedings are costly.

?I learned that a mediator can bring a Geriatric Care Manager to the table to provide options.? Geriatric care managers with a background in nursing or social work?are trained to investigate all the options ? from home care to nursing homes ? interview the elder to determine his or her preferences and?make recommendations?to the entire family.?

The benefits of mediating elder issues include minimizing conflict among?family members;??valuing the concerns of all family members while focusing on the elder?s needs; and preserving assets by lowering the costs of resolution.? In addition, mediation will yield benefits in the future by improving communication among family members.

For more information on mediation, contact Risa A.?Kleiner, Esq. at 609.951.2222 or at risa@rkleinerlaw.com

Non-profits and Social Media: Fundraising Campaigns Where ...

Twive and ReceiveFundraising is one of the necessary evils of the non-profit world.

In order to keep a non-profit afloat, and do the good works that you originally set out to do, you have to be funded. That requires some mix of seeking grants from the government and businesses, as well as approaching individuals to ?invest? in the work you are doing. And quite often, in this economy, it might seem as though you spend more time trying to raise funds, than you do on your actual social mission.

In his wonderful new book, The Non-Profit Narrative (which I?ll be reviewing very soon), Dan Portnoy notes:

Non-profit organizations weren?t started to consistently ask for money and talk about the troubles of keeping the lights on. Remember, they were started to change the world.

And yet, if you work at a non-profit organization, you may feel like you always have your hand out. And that might actually be the perception that many have of your organization. But what if you just took the time to maximize your fundraising efforts, so that you could generate more money with each ask, and therefore, not have to ask so often? Wouldn?t that be a wonderful thing? It?s no fun asking for money.

Unless you?re creative. And have the right tools at your disposal.

Enter Razoo Giving, an online social giving platform. My friend Ifdy Perez, a champion of social good, and the Community Manager at Razoo, which I believe is the most robust social giving platform[, sent me a DM on Twitter yesterday telling me about their new project: Twive and Receive. When I checked it out, I knew I not only had to write this post about it, but I also signed up. But more on that later?

Twive and Receive is a 24-hour online giving competition scheduled for June 14th. Folks like you and me will represent our communities on Twitter and other social platforms to raise money for our favorite local non-profit, while at the same time competing to help them win a share of $30,000.

Razoo has hosted one-day events like this before, but usually on a more hyper-local or regional level. For instance, ?Give to the Max Day? back in November in Washington, D.C. raised more than $2-million in just one day for over a thousand local non-profits. Pretty impressive, eh?

Here?s what I like about this particular campaign:

1) It?s social ? At the heart of this campaign is Twitter, but other platforms like Facebook, Pinterest, and even blogging will be used to raise awareness during this 24-hour period. While one or two people in each community will be heading up the effort, they?ll be using their online social influence to get others on board.

2) It fosters community ? The large majority of the campaign will be done online, but there can be offline elements as well. And you and other locals can band together online, and even gather together offline, to rally the troops and raise awareness and funds for your cause. Nothing brings people together better than a shared cause that benefits your local community.

3) It?s short ? Many high profile fundraisers seem to go on forever. And ever. This is limited to 24-hours. In. Out. It?s Over.

4) It?s competitive ? Gamification is one of the buzzwords of the social realm these days. Foursquare and other platforms use gamification to get people involved and keep them involved. Who doesn?t love a little friendly competition? It?s you and your city against a host of other cities, seeing who can raise the most money. Community pride can be a powerful motivating factor.

5) It?s fun ? Or, it CAN be fun. It?s all how you execute. But when?s the last time you enjoyed fundraising? Usually we dread the task of asking others for money. Here, you can have some fun and raise money at the same time.

6) It fosters and rewards creativity ? I have no idea how this campaign will shake out, but I?m convinced of one thing: the cities that win will be the ones that exhibit the most creativity. If all you do is tweet about raising money, you can only go so far. But what if you get local businesses and media involved? Are there offline methods you can use to get people involved online? What about a tweetup for happy hour? There are so many things

7) It fosters relationships between the community and the non-profit ? If you do this right, your non-profit will be on board, and they?ll be promoting it as well. You?ll have the chance to connect local folks to the non-profit, who might never have engaged with them in the past. And it feels good to give something back to your community as an individual. At the same time, the non-profit benefits by rolling up their sleeves and working alongside community members.

8) Razoo will help you along the way ? This isn?t some promotion or contest where you?re told to do something, and then the organizing business disappears until the last day. Razoo will be putting together an online toolkit to help you plan your day, including widgets you can put on websites and Facebook pages. They?ll also be hosting weekly conference calls to bring you up to date on the campaign, and offer you tips.

9) Everyone wins ? You win by being a part of something good in your community, and you?ll get to meet and build relationships with others. Your non-profit wins, because even if they don?t ?win? the competition, they still get to keep the money that was raised for them. Plus they?ll most likely have access to new donors. And Razoo wins because they are the organizers of this, and many non-profits will be introduced to their great platform.

I?ve already signed up to be the point person for my community in Lancaster, and I?ve chosen the non-profit for which we?ll be fundraising: Water Street Ministries (client) which provides a variety of services to the homeless and needy in our area. They serve a lot of people and do great work.

What about you? Are you willing to step up and be the point person for your community? If there is no one representing your city, why not consider signing up now? And if your city is already spoken for, join the cause! Contact the person listed next to your city and offer to lend a hand, or a tweet.

What do you think are the hallmarks or elements of a successful online fundraising campaign? What has worked for you in the past? How can you incorporate these elements into your fundraising efforts all year long?

Care to take a walk down memory lane by way of the information superhighway? Good, because 21st century digital natives and Luddites alike could stand to benefit from some virtual navel-gazing. In what's essentially a 'look at how far we've come' exhibit, My Life Scoop, Intel's "connected lifestyle" site, has a collection of the more notable experiments that've sprung from our surprising interactions with the internet. Starting from the dial-up days of the mid-90's and working up to the near present, curious users can peep the wacky ways we've used the web as a tool, ranging from a remote community gardening project (The Telegarden) to a stock index that auto-adjusts dress hemlines (Stock Market Skirt) to an interactive, Arcade Fire-soundtracked film made to showcase Google Chrome (The Wilderness Downtown). But don't let us just tell you about these visual delights. Strap on those culture hats and meander through the finer artistic points of our shared online evolution at the source below.

Rivaflowz.com: Relationships: Unmasking Love

I don?t think I?ve ever farted in front of my significant other. In fact, I?m pretty sure I did I super cartwheel out of bed, over the bed bench and baseball slide out of the bedroom door just to do it. I?ve bucked a toe or two with these fast moves. Hurts like hell.

When my boyfriend and I first started dating, I wouldn?t even let him see my morning face. He?d wake up to a clean mouth, astringent-cleaned face and a spritz of Victoria Secret.

I?d followed a friend?s advice: ?For the first three months, you never let him catch you slipping girl. Don?t let him wake up to morning breath, keep the sweats in the drawer and keep that lip gloss on deck!? For a tomboy with a vast sneaker collection, three pairs of heels and one lip gloss to her name; I was devastated. Keeping up these shenanigans for three months was going to be madness. Then it hit me. Wouldn?t he discover ?true me? after three months? Would he stick around then? If he?s going to leave, why should I stop him now? My friend is a fool. Love her to death, but trying to maintain and play these cat and mouse games to win over someone who?s already won, is wack. This beckons the question: At what point of the relationship, do we stop wearing our masks? If I backtrack through my union, I remember the exact point that I did. We met up with some friends at a beer garden in Long Island City for some fun. I?m still quite the inexperienced drinker; I mixed a Long Island Iced Tea with two beers. It wasn?t the greatest idea. Halfway back to the car, I stumbled over a few sidewalk cracks before I realized that my ?Oops my bad? had a slur. My new boyfriend laughed and giggled, even when I sat on a random brownstone steps, folded my arms and grimaced at him. ?What?s so funny?? I asked him. He smiled. ?You are. I?ve never seen you without inhibition.? At that moment all I could think about was prohibition. I grabbed hold of his arm, pulled it in the direction of the car and started to walk again. That night I threw up approximately three times and sprawled across the white sheets like a drunken snow angel. When I woke up the next morning, still a little hazy, he wasn?t beside me. I tiptoed to the living room where I found him, awake on the couch, grinning up at me. ?Drunk girlfriend! I see you?re awake. Sorry, there was no room on the bed for me.? I laughed and sat down beside him. For the first time, we spent the morning together; no make-up, last night?s clothes, morning breath and all. As the sun peeked through the blinds of the living room, he pinched my nose and said, ?Breakfast?? Why I didn?t do this earlier? A great weight was lifted off of my shoulder. During the next few months he?d find out about my sneaker collection and push me to wear them, he?d tell me that he loved my face pre-makeup and that my bad-hair-day hat was cute. This post is for all the girls who are obsessed with matching bra?s and panties, chipped nail polish and that little red dress. It?s for all the women who pretend they don?t have a past in order to keep their future. This is for the Sydney Shaws (Brown Sugar) who are awkward and clumsy and want nothing more than their best friends to fall in love with them.

If he doesn't love you for you now, he won't later on.

Our boyfriends should be our best friends: The people we aren?t afraid to show our flaws to, the person who has seen us at our best and our worst and the man who?ll deny you of your mask. Through play fights, my Ciara impersonation in the mirror and my ridiculously loud laugh at the movie theatres; I?ve learned that I?m loved for me. What was/is your mask? Are you still wearing it?

News and Society Blog-Environmental Info: Learning How To Go ...

ByLance Bylsma

It is important first to understand how to become eco-friendly and then to learn that you need to make gradual changes. Trying to change too many things all at the same time can lead to frustration. Frustration usually leads to a person giving up, so to speak. Making small changes over time is the best way to reach your goal in this and in everything.

Nearly everyone is aware that pollution is a very serious problem today. In addition to pollution, depletion of the natural resources is a problem as well. Learning a variety of things that you can do to help work towards a solution is a great way to contribute to the work being done to preserve the world today.

There are many small changes that can be made to help you on your way. First, reuse whatever you can instead of throwing things away. Recycling offers people the opportunity to get rid of things that they personally cannot reuse such as empty plastic bottles and bags. By recycling these products, they can be turned into a new product after they are reprocessed.

Everyone enjoys the out-of-doors and fresh, clean air. Many individuals are working on various projects that will help maintain the environment, as well as clean up pollution. Going green means you work to recycle, reduce, and reuse all of the products that you have contact with. It means reducing the number of miles you drive your car, thereby reducing the use of oil and gasoline, as well as lowering the amount of emissions being released into the air.

In addition, the added costs of everything today is literally forcing people to reduce consumption of various things such as gasoline and heating fuels. However, on the other side of that story are people switching to alternate methods of heat. For some that means using more solar energy to provide the warmth for their homes. For others, it may mean burning wood instead. Unfortunately, burning wood means depleting that resource faster. However, programs are being used to replant the trees quickly.

The result of the pollution from various things is evident in just a quick look around the outdoors. Pollution from garbage, as well as problems with erosion can be seen nearly everywhere. Not only is pollution affecting humans, but it is creating many problems for all species of wildlife as well. Learn how to go green and help out the earth today.

You can find useful tips on how to go green and details about the benefits of going green at http://www.energy2020today.com/go-green.htm now.

WASHINGTON (AP) ? Vice President Joe Biden says he's confident the Supreme Court will uphold the constitutionality of the health care law.

Biden says in an interview taped for CBS's "Face the Nation" that "we think the mandate and the law are constitutional and we think the court will rule that way."

Asked about the chances it would be overturned, he replies, "I don't believe it will happen." Biden says "I think we should focus on what is the law doing for people now and what would happen if Republicans should repeal it."

Biden has started taking on a greater role in arguing President Barack Obama's case for re-election, making an appearance on his behalf in the Midwest earlier this week. Excerpts of his Sunday interview were aired Friday on "CBS This Morning."

Formspring: Long Distance Relationships // THATS WHAT SHE SAID.

?

Finally a question I can answer! ?I am the queen of long distance relationships and let me tell you, it is not a title you want. I don?t know if it has to do with the fact that I?m unlucky when it comes to relationships or if I just can?t get a guy within a 20 mile radius to deal with/commit to me. ?Either way, I?m no stranger to it. ?My ex-boyfriend moved 7 hours away in the middle of our relationship, the last guy I dated lived 2.5 hours away, and the last guy that I had a mutual genuine interest in (whom I met in Boston) was here on break? from Colorado. ?So yea, I think that sets up my long distance repertoire pretty well.

Anywho, I?m gonna go ahead and say majority of long distance relationships can?t work. ?It?s tough. ?Trying to find time in each other?s busy schedules to talk to each other, let alone visit each other, is not easy. ?Takes a lot of effort and commitment and those are hard to give to someone that you don?t get to see. ?Both persons have to put in a concerted effort to show that they?re still in the relationship 100% and if even one person slips a little, well you saw for yourself what happens.

Another reason why long distance does not work is because of trust. ?When I was in one I was tempted to cheat all the time. ?Most people don?t take long distance relationships seriously, so most people won?t respect your relationship. ?That means the temptation is straight up Eve and the apple status. ?And knowing that the temptation is there for you, makes you realize that it is there for the other person and whether or not you can overcome it, doesn?t mean you trust your partner to. ?I know everyone says ?I trust my man/woman, they would never do that to me,? ?but the thought still lingers like a ticking time bomb and all you need is to hear that one giggling coworker in the background to set it off.

But, alas, I do have one scenario in which the long distance relationship works and that is when one person decides to make a move THE move. ?If the relationship is so important to both parties and the love and opportunity (I say opportunity cause in this day and age it takes more than love to just up and leave your home) that one or both of you are willing to make the move then it could work. ?That step in the relationship is HUGE. ?Without the possibility of the two parties being permanently reunited then long distance relationships are pointless and a waste of energy. ?It takes a lot to make one work and at the end of the day one of you has to take that hop, skip, and jump to be with the other.

So, my answer is long distance relationships rarely work unless one of you is going to move to the other.

Now I?m gonna leave you with probably the most popular long distance relationship song ever written:

Fun Fact: Delilah dumped his ass for another man. ?Can you imagine that song coming on the radio while Delilah and her new boyfriend are driving along? Yikes! Good for the Plain White T?s though, that song put them on the map? that they somehow managed to fall off of. Do they still exist?

Branding for Business owners - We Live As One

Branding for entrepreneurs

To get started this search at branding lets go back to the first definition. The time period will come from the Wild West exactly where cowboys would brand their cattle in buy to identify them as belonging to a certain rancher. It is also exactly where the time period maverick arrived from as one human being named Maverick resolved not to brand his cattle on the basis that any cattle not branded ought to be his.

Right now we use branding in a great deal the exact way in buy to identify a product or imgburn services as coming from a certain business. However, these days the brand has to do more than simply just identify possession. A brand now has to characterize the business, its values and what the business really delivers.

For that motive a brand is a great deal more than a emblem or a strap line. Logos, business names and strap lines collectively can be more helpful than any one of them on their possess, but branding also involves each interaction with a customer from the telephonist to the accounts office.

So how programmi per hdr does a new entrepreneur go about tackling the minefield of product or services branding? The initial issue to do is to recognise that simply just having a duplicate of desk prime publishing application does not make you a branding specialist! Be organized to commit revenue with an specialist if you you should not have the ability yourself.

However, you should not hand the task around to an external advisor, keep concerned.

Earlier than starting up get the job done on branding make convinced you have thought by means of exactly where you want the business to be in 5 ages time. What gunstinge fluge nizza could be a terrific image these days could not be applicable for exactly where you want to consider the business. For illustration, what you name your business these days could turn out to be a get the job done of entirely different indicating when you get started to export to another region. One particular of the online myths is that the Nova automobile never ever offered in Spain mainly because ? ?No Va? in Spanish means ? ?not going?!

Pope wraps up Cuba visit with Mass in Revolution Plaza; meeting with Fidel Castro

HAVANA - Pope Benedict XVI wraps up his visit to Cuba on Wednesday with an open-air Mass in the shrine of the Cuban revolution, hoping to revive the Catholic faith in this communist-run country. His other appointment: a meeting with Fidel Castro.

The former Cuban leader announced late Tuesday that he would happily meet with Benedict, saying he was asking for just a "few minutes of his very busy time" in Havana.

The Vatican had already said Benedict was available, so the confirmation from Castro ends weeks of speculation as to whether Castro would repeat the meeting he held with Pope John Paul II during his historic 1998 visit.

"I will happily greet His Excellency Pope Benedict XVI as I did John Paul II, a man for whom contact with children and the humble raised feelings of affection," Castro wrote.

Benedict's Mass in Revolution Plaza comes 14 years after John Paul preached on the same spot before hundreds of thousands of people, Fidel among them. Then, an image of Jesus Christ was displayed opposite the plaza's iconic image of revolutionary hero Ernesto "Che" Guevara, a remarkable development for a country that had been officially atheist until 1992.

This time, a huge poster of Cuba's patron saint, the Virgin of Charity of Cobre, covered the facade of one of the buildings facing the plaza near Che. The icon has been the spiritual focus of Benedict's three-day visit, timed to coincide with the 400th anniversary of the appearance of the diminutive statue.

Benedict visited the statue in a sanctuary near the eastern city of Santiago on Tuesday morning and prayed to her for greater freedom and renewal for all Cubans ? another gentle nudge to the government to continue opening itself up to greater reforms.

"I have entrusted to the Mother of God the future of your country, advancing along the ways of renewal and hope, for the greater good of all Cubans," the pope said. "I have also prayed to the Virgin for the needs of those who suffer, of those who are deprived of freedom, those who are separated from their loved ones or who are undergoing times of difficulty."

A top official in Havana quickly responded: "In Cuba, there will not be political reform," said Vice-President Marino Murillo, Cuba's economic czar.

Before arriving on his trip to Mexico and Cuba, Benedict asserted that Marxism as it was originally conceived is irrelevant for today's reality. Upon arriving on Cuban soil, however, he his language was less direct, and he pressed instead for the Roman Catholic Church to play a greater role in Cuban life and for Cuba's people to enjoy greater freedoms.

The Vatican spokesman said the Holy See didn't take Murillo's comments as a rebuff to Benedict's call, noting that the pope isn't a political leader who can change laws or political systems. But he said Benedict does have some concrete hopes for the visit.

During a nearly hour-long meeting Tuesday with Cuban President Raul Castro ? twice the normal length of papal audiences with heads of state ? Benedict asked that the government declare a holiday for Good Friday, when Catholics commemorate the death of Christ.

The request, like so much of this trip, was a follow-up of sorts to Cuba's decision to declare Christmas a national holiday in honour of John Paul's 1998 visit. Cubans hadn't had Christmas off for nearly 30 years.

"It's not that it changes reality in a revolutionary way, but it can be a sign of a positive step, as was the case of Christmas after John Paul's visit," said the Vatican spokesman, the Rev. Federico Lombardi.

The government didn't give an immediate response, but Lombardi said it was natural for Cuba to take time to consider it. The government frequently declares holidays at the last minute and Good Friday this year falls in less than two weeks, on April 6.

Benedict also raised "humanitarian" issues with Raul Castro, an apparent reference to political prisoners. Lombardi said he didn't know if individual cases were discussed.

Primarily, though, Benedict came to Cuba to try to win a greater place in society for the Catholic Church, which has been marginalized in the six decades of Castro family rule.

The island's Communist government never outlawed religion, but it expelled priests and closed religious schools after Fidel Castro came to power in 1959. Tensions eased in the early 1990s when the government removed references to atheism in the constitution and let believers of all faiths join the Communist Party.

John Paul's 1998 visit further warmed relations. But despite years of lobbying, the church has virtually no access to state-run radio or television, is not allowed to administer schools and has not been granted permission to build new places of worship. Only about 10 per cent of Cubans are practicing Catholics.

"Naturally a papal visit hopes to be an impulse for further steps, be it for the life of the church or for the good of society in its entirety," Lombardi told reporters, citing media, education and health care as areas where the church wants a greater say.

But in a country that once preached atheism and still is dominated by Marxist thought, that's a hard sell for the government and for ordinary Cubans alike.

Ana Blanco, a 47-year-old Havana resident, complained that people were being told to attend Wednesday's Mass, saying the pressure seemed odd in a country that in her early years taught her religion was wrong.

"Now there's this visit by the pope, and I don't agree with giving it so much importance or making anyone go to the Mass or other activities," the office worker said. "Before it was bad, now it's good. That creates confusion."

On Sept. 7, 2010, Adam Joseph Longoria was charged with capital murder and criminal sodomy in the death of 14-year-old DeBolt whose badly burned body was found behind an asphalt plant where he worked. (AP) ? Attorneys are expected to lay out their case in the trial of a Kansas man accused of killing a 14-year-old girl and burning her body at the asphalt plant where he worked.

Opening statements are set Thursday in the trial of Adam Longoria, 38. The Great Bend man faces life in prison without parole if convicted of capital murder in the August 2010 death of Alicia DeBolt. He also is charged with vehicle burglary and theft related to the crime.

To convict him of capital murder, prosecutors must also prove the August 2010 killing of Alicia was done during the commission of aggravating circumstances such as sodomy or attempted rape. The state is not seeking the death penalty.

Prosecutors have portrayed Longoria as obsessed with the Great Bend cheerleader.

Defense attorneys have not talked about their defense strategy but suggested during jury selection that jurors must also be able to consider a lesser charge in the death that would not carry a sentence of mandatory life imprisonment without parole. The defense also has the option of delaying its opening statement until the start of the defense case later in the trial.

Prosecutors claim Longoria lured the teen into his vehicle after texting her about a party on the weekend before she would have started her freshman year of high school. Her family reported her missing the next day, setting off a search that ended three days later when her charred body ? with traces of duct tape on her ankles and face ? was found at an asphalt plant just south of Great Bend.

The community was so shaken by the missing girl's death that more than 2,000 people attended a vigil to remember the teen known as "Babygurl."

Jury selection edged closer to completion Wednesday with 44 jurors accepted into the pool after three days of questioning. A panel of 12 jurors and two alternates will be finalized Thursday once attorneys use their rights to dismiss some jury candidates without having to offer a reason.

Testimony in the case is anticipated to stretch into next week. As many as 170 potential state witnesses have been listed, although prosecutors have said they plan to call far fewer than that those to the stand.

Potential jurors were warned during questioning to expect gruesome crime scene photos to be projected onto a screen in the courtroom.

The government also has a trove of text messages Longoria allegedly sent the girl in the weeks leading up to her death, including an exchange the day of her death.

(AP) ? NFL coaches plan to go right at the league's most sensitive subject ? bounties ? when they get together with players next month.

Although a few shied away from commenting at owners meetings this week about the New Orleans Saints' bounty program, under which players were rewarded for big hits on specific opponents, most coaches said they found it important to discuss. And not only with the media, but with their teams.

"The whole league will talk about it," Giants coach Tom Coughlin said Wednesday.

"The commissioner wants the entire league to make sure it's discussed ? to go forward using it as an example, to stress there is no place for that in our league."

Several coaches echoed Coughlin, with the hope they will need to bring it up only once to their players. Clubs will gather for workouts in mid-April.

"It's definitely necessary to mention it," said Ron Rivera, whose Carolina Panthers play the Saints twice a year in the NFC South. "The precedent has been set by the commissioner and they need to understand that and it is not to be broached again. Going forward, we won't have to go over these things again."

Saints coach Sean Payton was suspended by Commissioner Roger Goodell for the 2012 season and twice has apologized for his role in the bounty program. His former defensive coordinator, Gregg Williams, is barred indefinitely for overseeing the system. Williams was hired as defensive coordinator in St. Louis earlier this year.

Joe Vitt, Payton's assistant head coach, was suspended for six games, Saints general manager Mickey Loomis got eight games, and the team was fined $500,000. New Orleans also loses a second-round pick in each of the next two drafts.

Detroit Lions coach Jim Schwartz stressed how easy it is to cross the line from acceptable rewards to something sinister.

Schwartz said past awards he's given out while working for the Tennessee Titans and the Lions ? baseball bats or a boxing glove for big hits ? had league approval, because they didn't have any monetary significance.

"It was part of the game-ball program. It wasn't part of anything else," Schwartz said. "A recognition system has been in effect for football since pee wee ball. We give out game balls. We give out trophies at the end of the season for all different things. A lot of colleges give out stickers on helmets; high schools give out stickers on helmets. There's a big difference between things like that and things like bounties."

Schwartz noted that it's not unheard of for QBs to buy gifts for their linemen, or for running backs to do the same if they have a big season.

"That would all receive very good press," he said. "I think what this shows is how fine some of the lines are and how easy it is to go from something like that that's been around and has been part of football to something that should never be part of football and is not good for our game."

The NFL sent lead counsel Jeff Pash and security director Jeffrey Miller to New Orleans to speak with the Saints about the bounties one day before they hosted Detroit in a wild-card game in January. The league officials told owner Tom Benson to make sure no bounty system still was in place.

New Orleans had already beaten Detroit in the regular season, when Lions pass rusher Ndamukong Suh was serving a suspension for stomping an opponent.

Was Schwartz aware of anything untoward by the Saints, either time?

"Other than we got beat twice?" he said. "They were physical games but I don't recall them drawing any penalties. We were the only ones drawing penalties (in Week 13). I don't recall anything that the guys thought was extra."

Mike Smith's Falcons are the Saints' main rival in their division. Atlanta-New Orleans games usually are close, always are feisty.

"It is a physical game and there are rules we must play by," Smith said. "As coaches, it is important we make sure we coach to that."

One of the NFL's most physical teams ? and most fined ? is Pittsburgh. Star linebacker James Harrison was suspended one game in 2011 for a hit to a defenseless player, Browns quarterback Colt McCoy. Harrison was deemed a repeat offender, and he frequently has been fined by Goodell for illegal hits.

Pittsburgh coach Mike Tomlin said he's heard of other teams supposedly placing bounties on the Steelers.

"That talk has been around, but for us, it's not something that we've engaged in," Tomlin said. "We've always been somewhat amused by it, not that it's amusing, of course."

Seattle coach Pete Carroll spent 15 years working in the NFL before going to Southern California for nine hugely successful seasons in college football. He returned to the pros in 2010.

He misses the aura that surrounded some players with a tough-guy image, but recognized that times change.

"The lore of the players that were unique, there's not a place for that in a way," he said. "Those of us who are the old-school guys, we miss that. We miss the uniqueness of the tough guys and the way that they were able to demonstrate that. But now, it just doesn't fit."

World News - World's cities to expand by more than twice the size of ...

AP file

Building denser cities like Manhattan -- as shown in this aerial view Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2007, in New York - could be part of the answer.

By Ian Johnston, msnbc.com

Cities worldwide are on track to expand by nearly 580,000 square miles ? more than twice the size of Texas ? in less than 20 years, according to experts at a major international science conference.

Yale University professor Karen Seto said the North American suburb had ?gone global, and car-dependent urban developments are more and more the norm.?

The world?s population is expected to grow from the current 7 billion to about 9 billion by 2050, according to the United Nations.

Experts meeting at the Planet Under Pressure 2012 conference in London said in a statement released by the organizers Tuesday that unless changes were made, ?humanity?s urban footprint? would increase in size by 1.5 million square kilometers (nearly 580,000 square miles) by 2030.

This is significantly more than twice the size of Texas or, according to a "back-of-the-envelope calculation" by Seto,?more than 43,000 football fields every day for the next 18 years.

?The way cities have grown since World War II is neither socially or environmentally sustainable and the environmental cost of ongoing urban sprawl is too great to continue,? Seto said in the statement.

?People everywhere, however, have increasingly embraced Western styles of architecture and urbanization, which are resource-intense and often not adapted to local climates,? she added. ?The North American suburb has gone global, and car-dependent urban developments are more and more the norm.?

Eco-friendly skyscrapers?
Seto was one of the authors of a report in the journal PLoS One about global urban sprawl, along with Michail Fragkias of Arizona State University,?who is?one of some 2,800 participants at the London conference.

The Planet Under Pressure conference is designed to give an idea of the health of the globe ahead of the Rio+20 United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development in June.

Fragkias told msnbc.com that "the answer [to urban sprawl] is denser cities."

"The main message is we are not going to get away with cities like Phoenix or cities like Los Angeles," he said. "These are the typical cities of the single-family house, with a huge lot and huge highways that connect various areas of the cities because there is no way you can have an efficient or cheap enough mass transit system to support them."

Instead, densely populated areas such as Singapore or Manhattan --?but not New York City's?surrounding urban sprawl --?provided possible models for the future. "If cities can develop in height rather than in width that would be much more preferable and environmentally not as harmful," Fragkias said.

Census: 8 out of 10 Americans are now urbanites

But Seto told msnbc.com that density was only part of the answer, saying someone who lives close to where they work in Phoenix could have a low environmental impact, compared to someone living in a densely packed city who commutes through congested streets in a car.

Cities?are not?'bad'
And she said that increasing the?urban?population?was "absolutely" the way to deal with the rising number of people in the world.

"For a long time, environmental activists said 'cities are bad.' The rationale was cities take up space and that could be better used for gorillas and butterflies," and other wildlife, Seto told msnbc.com.

But she said the global population was increasing and "we certainly don't want them strolling about the entire countryside. We want them to save land for nature by living closely [together]."

The conference statement said that?creating more environmentally friendly cities included better infrastructure planning; ?reversing the trend to ever larger homes;" and ending subsidies that favor cars over public transport.

Beijing's 'hubs' haven't curbed population pressures

Inner city schools should also be improved and other urban issues such as income inequality and crime rates addressed, the statement said.

"Cities are being built so quickly, we have to rethink how we do things ... Rome wasn't built in a day, but Chinese cities are," Seto quipped, saying most urban growth was taking place in Asia.

UNICEF: Millions of kids live in urban squalor

On Tuesday, organizers of the conference also highlighted a website called Welcome to the Anthropocene, referring to a term adopted by scientists and environmentalists to describe what they say is a new epoch, one uniquely influenced by human actions.

The idea the world had entered the Anthropocene was first put forward in 2000?by Dutch Nobel laureate Professor Paul Crutzen and U.S. academic Professor Eugene F. Stoermer.

"This century is special in the Earth's history. It is the first when one species -- ours -- has the planet's future in its hands," Martin Rees of the Royal Society, Britain's academy of sciences, said at the conference Monday according to the AFP news agency. "We've invented a new geological era: the Anthropocene.?

Record labels come to life in the music industry. Indie artists get your ...

The period between the introduction of the CD and the introduction of online music websites was rosy indeed.

Now the music industry has changed more in the past five years than it has in the past 20 years. Few industry professionals expected the changes that have occurred in the past few years. Album sales are down while marketing costs are high. The bottom line is that indie artists are moving to self-publishing.

Most music artists havent been able to find the necessary tools and resources to help them market their music. While an aspiring artist may have been fortunate to meet some record labels representatives at a recent gig ? has that turned into a successful career?

Many musicians are not familiar enough with the business of music to be able to negotiate a deal that is beneficial for all parties. Some are unsure, what it is they should be looking for whether it is marketing support, studio time and most importantly the guidance and music industry experience.

An important resource enables its members to connect with people who are looking to manage, promote, book, market and be part of the next wave of the music scene. From opportunities to having your music heard at festivals to finding the right management representative whose goals are concurrent with yours.

There has never been a better time for aspiring musicians as the industry is hungry for new music talent. With the right tools and resources, you can build your connections to the players in the industry and with your fans.

With the overwhelming number of talented individuals in Canada, United States and around the world, the New Music Label community continues to grow with more Music Artists, Musicians, Producers, Agents and Record Labels looking to work together. Find record labels on our site.

Lenovo outs Enterprise App Shop for business-oriented Android folks

Lenovo outs Enterprise App Shop for business-oriented Android folks
We'd previously seen Lenovo work its app game by handing out dev classes to high schoolers, and now it's got some application bits for the grown-ups. Earlier today, the Chinese manufacturer introduced its Enterprise App Shop, which is said to run on Android slates that are sporting Honeycomb or any later version of the OS. Lenovo's also stuffed an "App Shop Manager" feature in the biz-oriented market, allowing companies to build a mini app store where they can add and control their own applications. The ThinkPad maker says the Enterprise App Store Shop's simplicity will help by "eliminating factory resets and streamlining app installation," while being "very intuitive and easy to use." We'll have to wait and see if that's indeed the case.
